What's in a label?

06.09.10 | We need to know

We've been having a rethink of our label, so that it says more about us, more about how to wear Makepiece clothes and is, well a bit more cute.

Nicola and I are great at explaining our stuff in our own shop - but we need a label that can do that when we're not around. Try as we might we can't be everywhere.

Thanks to a Business Link grant, we commissioned Design Futures at Sheffield Hallam University to rethink our labels - whilst remaining true to our eco-friendly values.

One of the things we've wanted to do for a while is promote people keeping their garments for as long as possible, so part of the brief was to include somewhere to put a wrap of yarn, to help if a garment ever needs mending.

Another part of the brief was to include information about the different ways of wearing things like shrugs, more information about the collection and plenty of garment care advice.

The information is covered in the card tags - a system of having a multi-part tag which means that we can have extra inserts for garments like shrugs.

One of the solutions is to include a yarn wrap on a wooden tag.

But the label designers also found that you could make a little pop out lamb if you made the tag out of wood... we're finding that idea difficult to resist.

The alternative is to include the yarn wrap on the card label - and just have a wooden tag.

Let us know what you think!

What would you do with a wooden tag (with or without yarn)? Which do you like best?
